Phoenix Tennis Center
The City of Phoenix completely renovated the 1969 regional tennis facility located in central Phoenix and added high performance courts and clay court surfaces. The center included 25 adult courts, three singles courts, and four youth courts and a future entry building and clubhouse. Selective demolition and preservation were a key challenge for this existing recreation facility. Tensile fabric shade shelters, high performance tennis amenities, and pedestrian comfort nodes were the major features of this project for the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department.
Innovative Features: The design incorporated yellow for tennis shade structures to mimic the tennis ball and blue frames to match the blue tennis court game surface. Bike racks were selected because the shape emulated a tennis racket.
